Electron impact dissociation of HgX/sub 2/ molecules has been studied in the electron energy range of 1--100 eV. By using the most intense band of the B-X system of HgX (X = Cl,Br,I) radicals, emission cross sections have been measured at different energies of the projectile electron. The threshold electron energy for the observation of the B-X band system has been determined to be 7.0, 6.5, and 5.7 eV for HgCl/sub 2/, HgBr/sub 2/, and HgI/sub 2/ molecules, respectively. These energies are in good agreement with values previously reported by other investigators.
