Marketing and mobility. Report of a panel of the Interagency Task Force on motor vehicle goals beyond 1980

The Secretary of Transportation was asked to lead a joint Federal task force to examine long-range energy goals of the motor-vehicle fleet, compatible with environmental, safety, and economic objectives. Eight special panels established were: air quality, noise, and health; safety; fuels and materials resources; automotive design; automotive manufacturing and maintenance; marketing and mobility; national/industry/consumer economics; and alternative implementation strategies. The tasks assigned to the panels are given. The period of time being considered is the decade beginning 1980. The inputs to the Marketing and Mobility Model are discussed and include such factors as roominess, fuel economy, demographic variables, etc. The output variables include such factors as fuel consumption, vehicle miles traveled, sales, car prices, scrappage, etc. The purpose of the Marketing and Mobility Model is to facilitate the comparison among alternate technological scenarios in the Motor Vehicle Goals Study. 66 references.
