A synthetic wastewater, with appropriate nutrients and vitamins needed by mixed anaerobic cultures, has been selected. The pollutants selected represent the major categories of constituents found in coal conversion wastewaters. The serum bottles and associated supplies to conduct the screening tests has been obtained, and six 2-L Jug Reactor systems have been constructed. The acclimation studies will begin in January 1986, using organisms obtained from six different sludges. 2 refs., 1 fig., 1 tab.
