China's small-hydro turbine technology

With China's national commitment to small hydro and the attendant economies obtained by standardization of designs and mass manufacturing of equipment (versus individual fabrication), American utilities reported to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) that hydroelectric turbine-generators were available from the People's Republic of China at very low competitive prices. To help provide an overview of the technical suitability of small hydroelectric equipment from the Peoples' Republic of China, a three-person EPRI project team spent 12 days in China visiting pertinent hydroelectric facilities. The article is based on the resulting EPRI report. 5 references, 4 figures.
