Evidence for second-Born-approximation contributions to continuum-electron capture by positive ions

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
We describe a unique indicator for the effect of second Born terms in the secondary-electron spectra of continuum-electron capture by positive ions. Specifically, a discontinuity in the function f(v/sub e/,v/sub p/,theta/sub e/) where d/sup 3/sigmaproportional( f(v/sub e/,v/sub p/,theta/sub e/)/Vertical Barv/sub e/-v/sub p/Vertical Bar) dE/sub e/ d..cap omega../sub e/ indicates second Born contributions. Three different experiments are analyzed with respect to this indicator. In all cases we find strong evidence for the discontinuity and hence the presence of second Born terms.
