Co-authored by persons in seven Asian countries in cooperation with the East-West Center, this book reports on a cross-section of policy, technology, and development research linking energy and rural development issues. The purpose is to distill these experiences and develop a new research agenda that will strengthen the ability of rural people to identify and organize energy resources and technologies to meet their own needs. The initial focus is on energy to meet basic food and nutrition requirements, but the book also develops approaches for assessing energy needs for increasing agricultural productivity and employment-generating activities.
