Polyhedral octa(organosilasesquioxanes) (RSiO/sub 1.5//sub 8/, where R = CH/sub 3/, C/sub 2/H/sub 5/, or C/sub 2/H/sub 3/, have been studied by high-resolution NMR at the /sup 13/C and /sup 29/Si nuclei in the solid state. A correspondence has been established between the nonequivalence of the silicon atoms and the distortion of the silicon-oxygen framework of the molecule. An explanation has been given for the nature of the splitting of the ..beta..-carbon atoms in the /sup 13/C NMR spectra in the ethyl and vinyl derivatives.
