The state of Idaho is utilizing one of its material resource, geothermal energy, to heat the entire Capitol Mall Complex in Boise, Idaho. The 160F geothermal water provides the space heating needs for 800,000 sq. ft. of office space, idling four high-pressure steam boilers and virtually shutting the natural gas valve. System efficiencies and design techniques culminating in energy cost savings have become a bench-mark for the other direct-use geothermal systems.
