Method for sonically loosening oil well liner environments

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6311004
This patent describes a method for removing an oil well liner lodged in an earthen formation at the bottom of an oil well casing comprising the steps of: lowering an elastic elongated column having a clamping tool attached through the casing until the clamping tool is within the liner; causing the clamping tool to tightly engage the liner; the clamping tool having a column extension attached thereto which extends therebelow into the liner, the column extension having annular elastic members spaced therealong; coupling high level sonic energy to the column to cause longitudinal vibration. The sonic energy being coupled through the clamping tool directly to the liner; there being liquid within the liner between the annular members and slots. It is then formed in the liner providing fluid communication for the liquid between the inside and outside walls of the liner. Sonic energy is transferred from the column liner extension to the liquid within the liner and through the liner slots to liquid along the outside surface of the liner. It is sonically lubricating the outside walls of the liner while sonic energy is being applied directly to the liner; and when the liner is freed from the formation, draws it out from the well.
