A process is described for demetallizing a substantially liquid hydro-carbon-containing feed stream comprising the step of contacting the feed stream with a free hydrogen containing gas in the presence of a solid catalyst composition comprising a coprecipitate of nickel phosphate and titanium phosphate. These are under such contacting conditions as to obtain a hydrocarbon-containing liquid product stream having a reduced concentration of metals.
