Emission of convoy electrons after grazing ion-surface collisions

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. A; (United States)
Convoy electrons emitted in collisions of 100--340-keV protons with a Si(111) surface at grazing incidence are investigated. The observed cusp shape in the electron spectra is significantly broadened in comparison to that observed in ion-atom and beam-foil interaction. We attribute this broadening to a deviation from the Coulombic final-state interaction near the surface due to the image potential.
