Bimodal metal particle size distributions of Pd and Pt on vitreous supports from SAXS (small angle x-ray scattering) data

At least two main peaks were detected in the metal distribution function of glass-supported 0.8% palladium, 1.0% platinum, and 0.3% platinum If the samples were washed with pentane prior to the initial reduction, the number of metal particles > 30 A. dia was decreased, but the particles < 30 A. dia were not affected. The SAXS method is discussed and its reliability verified with transmission electron microscopy.
