The rate constants for the reaction of OH with SO/sub 2/ (M=He, Ar, N/sub 2/, O/sub 2/, CO/sub 2/, and SO/sub 2/) have been determined in a discharge flow system with an OH resonance fluorescence detector. The results are as follows: k(M=He) = (7.91 +/- 0.24) x 10/sup -32/(T/298)/sup -(2.85 +- 0.21)/ (261-414 K, 0.9-10 torr), k(M=Ar) = (1.09 +/- 0.09) x 10/sup -31/ (298 K, 1.0-3.6 torr), k(M=N/sub 2/) = (2.54 +/- 0.33) x 10 /sup -31/ (298 K, 0.9-4.0 torr), k(M=O/sub 2/) = (2.46 +/- 0.32) x 10/sup -31/ (298 K, 1.7-2.3 torr), (M=CO/sub 2/) = (1.20 +/- 0.31) x 10/sup -30/ (298 K, 0.6-1.1 torr), k(M=SO/sub 2/) = (1.15 +/- 0.09) x 10/sup -30/ (T/298)/sup -2.78 +- 0.39/ (261-414 K, 0.02-0.2 torr) (all in units of cm/sup 6/s/sup -1/), respectively. The uncertainty represents one standard deviation of the rate constant measurements. The results are compred with previous measurements of this reaction rate.
