This patent describes a casing alignment tool for aligning one section of casing within a derrick of a drilling rig positioned over a wellbore with another section of casing extending from the wellbore, the tool comprising: a frame mounted in the derrick at a point adjacent the upper portion of the one section of casing; a head assembly pivotably mounted to the frame, the head assembly comprising: a yoke member having a recess in one end to receive the one section of casing; means for pivotably connecting the other end of the yoke to the frame for movement about a horizontal axis; means for rotating the yoke about the horizontal axis between a retracted position substantially parallel to have the vertical axis of the derrick and an operable position substantially perpendicular to the vertical axis of the derrick; a plurality of roller means rotatably mounted on the yoke and extending into the recess whereby the roller means will engage the one section of casing when the casing is received in the recess; a pair of roller arm assemblies being pivotably mounted on the yoke at respective sides of the recess; means for moving each of the roller arm assemblies between an open position where the recess is free to receive the one section of casing and a closed position when the one section of casing will be held in the recess; each of the means for moving the roller arm assemblies comprising: a power cylinder mounted on the yoke; and a rod operated by the power cylinder.
