Radio quasar 0137+012: a case for damped jet precession

Journal Article · · Publ. Astron. Soc. Pac.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1086/131296· OSTI ID:6306129
VLA radio maps of the quasar 0137+012 are presented. The main radio lobe shows strongly connected curved structure which can be modeled by precessing of the jet direction with a linearly damped precession cone angle. The present jet direction is steady, and along the precession axis. The model parameters and the type of event which might lead to the observed structure are discussed in terms of merging galactic nuclei. The case is contrasted with others of apparently increasing precession cone angle. 20 references.
