Superconductivity of proton-irradiated V/sub 3/Si

Bulk samples of V/sub 3/Si were homogeneously irradiated by 35-MeV protons. Superconducting critical temperatures T/sub c/, residual resistivities rho/sub 0/, and upper critical fields H/sub c/2 were measured for magnetic fields up to 14 T and temperatures from 1.4 K up to T/sub c/. The observed temperature dependence of H/sub c/2 is consistent with strong paramagnetic limiting and small spin-orbit scattering. Based on all collected data, estimates are provided for the electron-phonon coupling parameter lambda and the band density of states N(0). These estimates suggest that for radiation-damaged V/sub 3/Si a general relation of the form lambda = AN(0)-BN(0)/sup 2/ exists, where A and B are positive constants.
