Calculation of the H. cap alpha. profile at bright points in flares

The profile of the H..cap alpha.. line is calculated from a model obtained as a result of gas-dynamic calculations. The Stark effect and the downward motion of condensation, responsible for the appearance of low-temperature emission, were taken into account in the process. The modeling of events having different power was analyzed. For events of moderate intensity it was found that flare emission should actually ''drown'' the absorption line. In powerful flares the central intensity can reach values exceeding the intensity of the nearby continuum threefold, with considerable broadening of the profile at the points of entry into the chromosphere of extremely large streams. The red asymmetry is connected with downward motion of the source with a time-dependent velocity. It is shown that H..cap alpha.. observations of bright points during the hard phase of a flare are in qualitative agreement with the idea of burning of the chromosphere. The anomalous width of the H..cap alpha.. and H..beta.. lines in the most powerful events is connected with a hypothetical rising jet of dense cool gas.
