Simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of titanium and scandium in aluminum alloys

This paper describes the possibility of direct determination of scandium in aluminum alloys with a high titanium content. It is shown that when sodium molybdate is introduced into solutions containing titanium (IV) ions and arsenazo III, there is an increase in the value of the light absorption and a long-wave shift of the absorption band. Also studied are the optimum conditions of formation and the basic spectrophotometric characteristics of a new complex, Ti-Mo-arsenazo III, in order to develop a method of simultaneous determination of titanium, as well as scandium, in alloys based on aluminum and molybdenum.
