Spectral and luminescence properties of CrT and NdT ions in gallium garnet crystals

Journal Article · · J. Opt. Soc. Am. B: Opt. Phys.; (United States)
The effective peak stimulated-emission cross section of chromium-doped gadolinium-scandium-gallium garnets (GSGG) has been determined to be 8.5 x 10 S cmS at room temperature. The values of the energy-gap E(SE-UT2) chromium fluorescence lifetime and the chromium neodymium energy-transfer parameter C/sub D/A(Cr--Nd) are determined for several gallium garnets. Temperature-dependent absorption and luminescence spectra of neodymium-doped GGG and GSGG are reported and discussed in the context of their use as laser materials.
