Bicycle strategies: to reduce transportation air pollution as part of State Implementation Plans
Among the strategies states must develop to reduce emissions from the transportation sector will be programs to encourage bicycling. A comprehensive approach that includes safe bike routes, parking facilities, education, motivation, and safety will involve the whole community. A program outline stresses that bicycling is non-polluting; efficient in energy, time, and space; good exercise; and independent. The opportunities for commuters will require cooperation from both employers and employees. A commprehensive community strategy should address each of these advantages in motivating public support. Those that are already bicycle enthusiasts can participate in the formation of community programs. (DCK)
