P-matrix analysis of the dibaryon /sup 1/D/sub 2/ resonance

The relation between the 6-quark states of the bag model and nucleon-nucleon scattering in the dibaryon-resonance region is discussed. The existing data from phase-shift analysis are used to calculate the P matrix for the coupled pp(/sup 1/D/sub 2/) and N..delta..(/sup 5/S/sub 2/) channels at energies above the ..delta..-isobar production threshold. It is shown that for equivalent hadron bag radii in the range b = 1.3--1.5 F the P matrix has a pole in the mass range 2.33--2.36 GeV, which is in agreement with the mass of 2.34 GeV for the 6-quark state with I = 1, J/sup P/ = 2/sup +/ calculated in the MIT bag model. It is also shown that the hadronic shift of this state is approx.200 MeV; we find the dibaryon pole in the S-matrix to be at 2.15--2.17 GeV with width 100--200 MeV.
