Title: Recent advances in high temperature thermocouples

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6299450

Thermocouples capable of operation at temperatures above 2500/sup 0/C have been fabricated to measure fuel centerline temperatures. Rhenium is used as the sheath material and hafnia as the insulator material. The thermocouples are 1.5 mm in diameter and contain W5%Re/W26%Re thermoelement wires. A small diameter stainless steel sheathed compensating lead cable containing a fission gas barrier ceramic-to-metal seal is spliced to the thermoelement probe.
