Study of further power generation development at Tongonan Leyte Phillippines

Conference · · Trans. - Geotherm. Resour. Counc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6297956
Continuing exploration and testing at Tongonan, Leyte, Phillippines, indicates that the Tongonan geothermal resource will be among the world's largest fields capable of development for electric power generation. Construction of the initial development of a 112 MW power generation plant (Units 1 to 3) is already underway. A prefeasibility study of further power generation development of the Mahiao-Malitbog field sections has indicated an initial total potential development of up to 650 MW with a possible ultimate capacity of up to 1000 MW. Methods of resource assessment, extent of further field delineation and testing, the approach to possible engineering development and waste disposal, preliminary assessment of development costs and progress on environmental studies are described.
