Ionizing wet scrubbers control plant emissions

Journal Article · · Mech. Eng.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6295337
This article describes the use of the ionizing wet scrubber (IWS) to achieve good air-pollution control at a high level of energy efficiency. The IWS was developed to remove fine solid and liquid particles (down to 0.05 micron) and also to remove coarse particles (above 1 micron in diameter), as well as noxious, corrosive and malodorous gases from fluegas streams. The IWS combines the advantages of electrostatic precipitators and wet scrubbers. It employs the principles of electrostatic particle charging, inertial impaction and image force attraction. The design of the scrubber is described.
