Title: Future developments for offshore oil and gas production

Journal Article · · Pet. Inf. Ed. Int.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6293528

A detailed survey of offshore production equipment and technology covers exploration and field-development drilling platforms, production platforms, including fixed structures on legs, as well as floating production supports associated with submarine well-head equipment and flexible risers, and a loading post, with or without integrated storage, linked to the floating production unit by a suspended flexible line and supported by submerged buoyancy tanks; some studies carried out by the Societe Nationale Elf Aquitaine, in some cases jointly with the Compagnie Francaise des Petroles and the Institut Francais du Petrole, on new types of well heads, gathering lines, risers, floating platforms, flexible suspended lines, and metering equipment; research and development work on the adaptation of a production system designed for very deep water to permit its use at shallow depths on fields too small to justify the use of fixed platforms; articulated columns for intermediate depths; pipelines, including improved methods of pipelaying and welding and making other repairs on damaged pipelines; and the ''Grondin'' pilot-scale production installation at 60 m depth off Gabon.
