The reaction of cobalt tetrasulfophthalocyanine (CoTSPc) with cysteine (Cys) has been studied spectrophotometrically. It is shown that the formation of 1:1 and 1:2 adducts of CoTSPc with Cys takes place, depending on the concentration of substrate. The effect of the degree of aggregation of the catalyst, of the pH, and of additions of salts and organic solvents on the kinetics of the CoTSPc catalyzed autoxidations of Cys was studied polarographically. An explanation of the reactivity of different thiols in this reaction is proposed in terms of a single mechanism. Inhibition of the reaction by one of the products was observed.
