This article presents data on the chemical structure of a thickening agent and the physicochemical properties of greases based on fatty acids and isocyanates. The grease samples were prepared by blending a dispersion medium (petroleum oil with a viscosity of 20-40 mm/sup 2//sec at 50/sup 0/C) with solutions of 2, 4-toluylenediisocyanate and higher fatty acids, at 140-170/sup 0/C in the presence of alkali metal acetates as catalysts of this reaction. The thickening agent was recovered from the grease for analysis by washing repeatedly with petroleum ether at room temperature. The results indicate that the amidoisocyanurate grease has good antiwear and extreme-pressure properties, high mechanical stability, and is better than Litol-24 with respect to oil bleeding. A disadvantage of the grease is that it does not give adequate protection of ferrous or nonferrous metals against external corrosion agents.
