A novel copper(II) complex containing the ligand 1,2-bis(2,2 prime -bipyridyl-6-yl)ethane: Structural, magnetic, redox, and spectral properties

The preparation of an open-ended ligand based on 2,2{prime}-bipyridine and a method for coordination of the ligand to copper(I) and copper(II) are reported. The specific ligand prepared was 1,2-bis(2,2{prime}-bipyridyl-6-yl)ethane. The x-ray structure of the copper(II) complex and the solid-state and solution properties of the complexes are reported. 27 refs., 5 figs., 4 tabs.
