This review, divided into two sections includes (1) methods of sampling, analyzing, and testing coal, coke and related materials, and (2) methods for chemical, physical, and instrumental analyses of gaseous fuels and related materials. Analytical methods for fuel gas, natural gas, and refinery gases were included. The determination of impurities in fuel gas by titration, gas chromatography, colorimetry, and coulometry were also discussed. A review of coke oven gas analysis was given and includes analysis of sulfur compounds and hydrogen cyanide in the treated gas. Classical and conventional methods of liquid petroleum gas sulfur analysis were reviewed. The monitoring of natural gas composition in piping systems by gas chromatography was reviewed. The analysis and remote sampling of gas components from an underground coal gasification test were reviewed. (DP)
