Well assembly for heating a subterranean formation
Patent

OSTI ID:6285043
This well assembly, including a gas-fired heater, is used in thermal recovery operations to heat a subterranean formation. A subassembly, which can slide within sealing means located in the casinghead, includes a fuel string located within a primary air conduit. Leakage of air and fuel gas is prevented from the upper end of each respective string or conduit. Flexible conduits supply the air and fuel gas, with a heat shield being located in the primary air conduit at the bottom adjacent to the formation. The primary air and fuel gas are mixed to form a combustible mixture only after reaching the vicinity of the heat shield. An electrical igniter is located so that the air and fuel gas can flow over it. Electrical energy is supplied to the igniter from the surface through an electrical conductor. A hoisting yoke is connected to the upper end of the primary air conduit above the casinghead. (8 claims)
