Low head hydropower: focus group results
This report presents the major conclusions and findings obtained from a focus group discussion concerning low-head hydroelectric power generation. The information will provide DOE information from which to evaluate the barriers and opportunities associated with the successful commercialization of low head hydropower and to evaluate the appropriate Federal actions for promoting and facilitating commercialization of this technology. The primary questions put before the discussion group participants were: is commercialization of low head hydropower feasible; what is the nature and extent of the market for this technology; what barriers and opportunities are critical to the commercialization of low head hydropower; and what actions, if any, should be taken by the Federal government to bring about successful commercialization of this technology. The opinions, attitudes, and knowledge of the participants on these issues are summarized.
