Phenomenological model for baryons with radially dependent quark mass

A phenomenological quark model in which the effective quark mass varies with radius according to m(r) = M(lambda -e2R0 S) (M and R0 input parameters) is investigated. Requiring the magnetic moment of the proton to be equal to /sub p/ = 2.79, and taking the limit R0 infinity, we obtain the correct axial-vector--vector coupling-constant ratio G/sub A//G/sub V/ for the nucleon. There thus seems to be an intimate relationship between the magnetic moment and the coupling ratio. Our model, however, yields a proton charge radius that is somewhat too large and a proton mass, too small.
