Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/6278085· OSTI ID:6278085
In this data book prepared by Bechtel National, Inc., pertinent information on the production of solvent-refined coal (SRC) and its utilization as a utility boiler fuel is compiled, reviewed, and analyzed. Detailed discussions are presented regarding the production, transportation, fuel handling, pulverization, combustion, and emission characteristics of this new fuel. The design requirements and associated capital costs to retrofit a typical existing coal-fired power plant to burn SRC are also presented. The data were gleaned from reports associated with the SRC production plants at Ft. Lewis, Washington, and Wilsonville, Alabama; pilot-scale combustion tests; and the full-scale burn tests at Georgia Power Company's Mitchell Station. This data book is intended to serve as a comprehensive information source on SRC which will be updated periodically as the technology advances.
