Avoiding the boom and bust at Hartsville

Hartsville, Tennessee has experienced an organized economic growth rather than a boom (and threat of future bust) situation since construction began on the state's largest nuclear power plant. Public concerns, directed primarily at economic impacts rather than the nuclear aspect, have been relieved by the steps the Tennessee Valley Authority took to identify and plan for areas of impact in the five surrounding counties. This involved training many local people, gradually increasing the construction force, and providing financial assistance for public services. TVA will invest over $8 million to monitor the communities and help them adapt.
