Public-utility managers can improve office productivity by introducing innovative programs to reduce the operating costs of information processing and document management. Professionally designed information and document-management systems that can raise utility earnings and lower expenses can also lower customer rates and raise shareholder earnings. A pilot program at one utility illustrates the savings available from a three-phase departmental review and analysis, personnel training, and file purge. (DCK)
