Alcohol fuels for highway vehicles

This article describes the current status of alcohol fuels utilization technology for spark ignition engine highway vehicles. Methanol, ethanol, methanol derivatives (ethers), and blends of each with gasoline are discussed. The properties of each fuel are listed. Power output, fuel consumption and vehicle performance are discussed in addition to environmental considerations including exhaust and evaporative emissions. (Refs. 43).
