Fewer fueloil specialists with larger sales

The Census of Retail Trade reported that in 1982 there were 6077 companies whose principal business was selling fuel oil. These companies had average sales of $2 million in 1982. Data is presented on the number of fuel oil dealers for various years beginning in 1954, their total sales and payrolls; the sales per marketer; and a comparison of fuel oil marketers for the years 1977 and 1982. It is predicted that the 1987 census will reveal fewer companies in the business but these companies will be stronger.
