Simultaneous digitizing apparatus for an acoustic tool

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6272812
A data collection and digitizing system is described comprising acoustic receivers carried in the acoustic logging sonde for forming time overlapping analog acoustic logging output signals from the receivers, integer; first multiplexing means having inputs connected to the outputs of the acoustic receivers; second multiplexing means connected to the first multiplexing means; digital converter means operating at a first rate and connected to the second multiplexing means for forming a time based series of digital words; digital data buffer means in the sonde connected to the digital converter means for retaining in a formatted order a series of digital words from the converter means; timing means incorporated with the control means to time digitizing; telemetry transmitting means for telemetering the series of digital words from the buffer means along at least one data conductor in the cable at a second transmitting rate which is slower than the first converter operating rate such that a single acoustic energy pulse from the acoustic transmitter generates digital representations of the acoustic energy received at the acoustic receivers corresponding to the arrival at each receiver of a single acoustic energy pulse.
