Specifying optimum levels of roof insulation - especially for large, low rise buildings like plants and warehouses - used to be a tricky business. This report details a system which offers contractors, architects, specifiers and plant engineers seven computer programs to select optimum roof insulation levels. The Comput-A-Roof system from Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp., Toledo, OH, has been designed to demonstrate what levels of roof insulation will most effectively cut energy costs. Basically, its programs project return on investment for specific insulation thicknesses. Optimum insulation levels can not only help cut fuel bills dramatically, they can also reduce HVAC requirements in new buildings, further offsetting the initial insulation investment.
