Suncor sees loss in oil sands, shelves Burnt Lake

Suncor Inc. reported that earnings from operations for the first nine months of 1986 were $1 million, compared to $27 million for the same period last year. However, improved productivity at the oil sands plant and better margins in the downstream business were among the positive factors helping Suncor record a third quarter operating profit of $2 million. As part of restructuring the company's Resources Group it has stopped work on the $1 billion Burnt Lake project. Burnt Lake is an in situ steam recovery project located in the Primrose area. The operation has a potential of 25,000 barrels per day.
