Title: Fate and weathering of petroleum spills in the marine environment: a literature review and synopsis

This review presents highlights of recent publications dealing with oil weathering. The fate of oil spills in the marine environment is addressed. The complex and interrelated processes of evaporation, dissolution, photochemical and microbial degradation, emulsification, sedimentation, and sinking are discussed. (DMC)
