Sustained UO/sub 2/ melts using the Inductive-Ring Susceptor Technique. [PWR; BWR]

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6271247
A method for melting and sustaining large volumes of UO/sub 2/ has been developed. The method, known as the Inductive Ring Susceptor Technique, melts UO/sub 2/ powder via inductively heated refractory metal rings. The technique has been fully demonstrated by a series of experiments which melted 5 to 15 kg charges of powdered SiO/sub 2/, Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and UO/sub 2/.
