Velocity selection for Taylor bubbles

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. A; (United States)

We study the rise of an infinitely long, two-dimensional gas bubble in a tube. Using a boundary-integral formulation, we demonstrate the existence of a novel form of the surface-tension-induced solvability mechanism originally discovered for the Saffman-Taylor finger. We interpret our findings with the help of a local model caricature of the flow equations.
