Device for performing direct coronal CT scanning of the abdomen and pelvis

Journal Article · · AJR, Am. J. Roentgenol.; (United States)
While the transaxial view of the abdomen and pelvis using computed tomography (CT) has become the standard technique for abdominal examination, evaluation of the abdominal and pelvic anatomy in the coronal plane can provide additional information about the relation of organs to one another and the planes between normal tissue and abnormal tissue. Recently at least two widely distributed commercial scanners (Philips 300/310 and GE/CT 9800) have become available with gantry openings sufficient to scan adults in the direct coronal position. This paper reports on results with these scanners.
