Inelastic neutron scattering spectra from superconducting alloys C-15 V/sub 2/Zr, V/sub 2/Zr/sub 0.95/Nb/sub 0.05/ and V/sub 2/Hf/sub 0.5/Zr/sub 0.5/, V/sub 2/Hf/sub 0.5/Zr/sub 0.3/Nb/sub 0.2/ were measured by the neutron time-of-flight method. It was found that the additional content of Nb influenced the superconducting transition temperature T/sub c/ and phonon frequencies of V/sub 2/Zr/sub 1-x/Nb/sub x/ in a way different from that of V/sub 2/Hf/sub 0.5/Zr/sub 0.5-x/Nb/sub x/. The T/sub c/ increases and the phonon frequencies ''soften'' with increasing x for the former, while the T/sub c/ slightly decreases and the phonon frequencies ''harden'' for the latter. The result that the phonon frequencies of V/sub 2/Zr/sub 0.95/Nb/sub 0.05/ are softer than those of V/sub 2/Zr is somewhat in contradiction with previous results, which show that the magnetic susceptibilities decrease and the geometric mean phonon frequencies increase./sup 1//sup en-dash//sup 4/ The result that the phonon frequencies of V/sub 2/Hf/sub 0.5/Zr/sub 0.3/Nb/sub 0.2/ are harder than those of V/sub 2/Hf/sub 0.5/Zr/sub 0.5/ can be considered the result of hybridization of conduction bands, which is studied for close-packed compounds by means of the LMTO (linear combination of muffin-tin orbitals) method./sup 9/
