Results of a wind turbine/sealed lead-acid battery experiment

A coupled, stand-alone wind turbine generator/battery storage system has been evaluated by Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). The goal was to evaluate advanced batteries in solar applications. This paper addresses the system components, instrumentation, operation, and some of the results obtained during this evaluation. This system evaluation demonstrated that advanced lead-acid batteries can be successfully used with wind turbines to reliably satisfy an actual energy demand.
