Mutual friction in HeII under pressure

Journal Article · · Appl. Phys. Commun.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6266779
New results are presented on thermally driver counterflow in nonrotating HeII at pressures up to 24 bar in an 11-cm long channel with a relatively large rectangular cross-section area (0.83mmx9.52mm). Values for the Gorter-Mellink coefficient A and Vinen growth and decay parameters chi/sub 1/ and chi/sub 2/ are obtained from direct measurements of time development of temperature gradient following the application of a heat pulse with and without a steady background heat current. The results are compared with a microscopic vortex model proposed by Schwartz.
