North sea report. Marathon North Brae development will emphasize condensate yield
Marathon Oil UK Ltd. is developing the North Brae field at an estimated cost of $2.5 billion in what will be the first exploitation of a gas condensate dense phase reservoir in the UK sector of the North Sea. The project will feature gas recycling to maximize recovery of liquids and ultimately dry gas. The Brae B platform is the largest gas process facility to ever be installed off shore. The platform will be set in 325 ft of water and will have a total weight of 60,000 tons. During the peak production period, it will process 400 MMcfd of wet gas daily and recovery 75,000 bpd of liquids. Up to 360 MMcfd of gas will be reinjected for a period of 9 yr after the field comes onstream before dry gas sales will begin. The gas recycling will double the 40% recovery factor that would be achieved in a straightforward depletion of the reservoir. Based on a recoverability factor of 80%, recoverable reserves for the North Brae field are calculated to be 204 million bbl of condensate and 682 billion cu ft of dry gas.
