A distributed active archive center for Earth Observing System land processes data

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6264872
To insure open access to the Earth Observing System (EOS) data and associated research facilities, NASA is advocating the development of an EOS data information system. Early emphasis will be placed on requirements, systems, procedures for data archiving, product generation and distribution, and information management services. It is pointed out that the Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) for land processing data is one of several EOS Data Informations System's archive centers that will be developed to archive, process, and distribute EOS data and related products. Access to existing data sets for early scientific investigation in preparation for EOS data and related products will also be developed by DAAC. The EOS data and Information System, the Land Processes DAAC, the significance of pre-EOS data systems, and the complexity of EOSDIS are discussed. The Version O project, which will include tasks to prototype selected elements of each of the key components of DAAC operations, is analyzed.
