Preliminary 1978 US petroleum supply and consumption data

US petroleum supply and consumption data for 1978 is summarized in tables and compared with data from previous years. Production increases of Alaskan crude oil and total petroleum liquids more than offset decreases in natural gas liquids at gas processing plants and production at offshore sites. Higher import costs increased the merchandise trade deficit in spite of a seven percent drop in imports. Saudi Arabia and Nigeria are the current principal foreign suppliers. Cost and price data are compared and trends noted.
